ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The main aim of the Management Information Systems program (curriculum) is to prepare graduates for the informatics proficiency required by companies. Graduates will be able to analyze the business problems and develop solutions fort he needs based on informaiton systemand will be able top implement these solutions.

Management Information Systems (MIS) encompasses the whole of human-process-technology, which provides information to support an enterprise's prosess flow, management and decision making functions. The MIS generates solutions to problems in management and operations by using information to acquire and present the business information through computer systems. It uses system, hardware, software, analysis, planning, control and decision making models and database.

Graduates will be able to work as software project managers, data analysts, consultants, programmers, system administrators, database administrators and similar positions.

Academic education consists of eight semesters. Once students have knowledge of different basic business functions, then they are directed to gain expertize about software development, project management, system analysis, databases. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems

 

MISSION

The mission of the Management Information Systems (MIS) Division is as follows:

  • To give one of the highest quality and qualified undergraduate educations in Turkey in the field of MIS science.
  • To contribute nationally and internationally to this field of science with qualified researches.
  • To contribute to the development of sectors and the country by educating specialists in the creation and management of information systems which are the backbone of enterprises
  • To have a more effective and competent role in information systems and related educational, economic, cultural and social structures
  • To sustain long-term solidarity and cooperation with the sector.

 

VISION

The vision of the Department of Management Information Systems is as follows:

  • Continuing to improve undergraduate education with quality by constantly improving and improving
  • To carry on scientific researches with increasing quality and quantity
  • To create academic activities for information sharing in the field of MIS
  • To educate students to meet the special needs of MIS sector
  • For the purpose of selecting, implementing, managing and more effectively using of the information systems,  to strength and cooperate with the sector and other organizations
  • To develop ethical values ​​and principles in the field of MIS for Turkey
  • To become a consultancy and guidenance address in the field of MIS in Turkey.

 

 

 

EARNED DEGREE

Students who successfully complete the program are entitled to receive the "PRU Economic and Administrative Sciences,  Management Information Systems Graduate Diploma".

LEVEL OF EARNED DEGREE

This is a program at undergraduate level.

REGISTRATION CONDITIONS

Students who graduate from a high school or a equivalent education institution are eligible to study at our university if they choose a program based on the university's TM-1 score after the Undergraduate Placement Examination (LYS: Lisans Yerleştirme Sınavı) and if they are placed by OSYM in any of these programs. The registration conditions of all the faculties are published in the OSYM Manual.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE EARNED DEGREE AND RULES

Earned degrre requirements and rules are defined in Piri Reis University Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations.

Any student who successfully completes all courses of the program that he / she is enrolled in accordance with the provisions of this Regulation; Students who are not FF, FD and whose GNO is 2.00 or above, and who provide the minimum amount of credit required by the program are entitled to a diploma.

 

 

DEFINITION OF PREVIOUS LEARNING

Those who have enrolled in the first semester and who have studied at any higher education institution previously accepted by the Higher Education Council, should apply with the transcript document and the course  contents of the related faculty, at least one week before the registration renewal week and are they are required to claim exemption, for the courses that they have taken and succeeded in that higher education institution.  Those who are exempted from the examinations by the board of directors of the relevant units for equivalent courses and credits may be registrated in the appropriate courses according to the rules of taking courses from the upper mid term of the total credit load they are exempted.

 

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Management Information Systems (MIS) is a system of human-process-technology that provides information to support an enterprise's busines  process , management and decision making functions. The MIS establishes the information to be obtained through the computer systems, and uses these information to develop solutions to problems in the areas of management and operations. They use hardware, software, analysis, planning, control and decision making models and database. It bridges between business executives and end users, also with software and computer engineers, enabling operations to be more efficiently managed and successfully deployed.

Graduates will be able to work as software project managers, data analysts, system analysts, consultants, programmers, system administrators, database administrators and similar positions.

 

PROGRAM OUTPUTS

  1. To use concepts and theories related to different basic functions of business, to analyze and solve related process problems.
  2. As managers of the business, making decisions using appropriate analytical and quantitative techniques.
  3. Having research skills on how to obtain the necessary resources to evaluate and solve business problems.
  4. When adapting information technology applications, be aware of relevant environmental, social and ethical rules
  5. Using a foreign language and communicating verbally and in writing with colleagues from all over the world to follow new developments in business, management and information.
  6. To demonstrate teamwork and leadership skills required in business environment and project management.
  7. For information technology applications - for interdisciplinary work that can combine social and technical areas - to produce and analyze strategies that will improve operational efficiency, improve creativity and innovation.
  8. Identify software, hardware, infrastructure, database and communication requirements according to business requirements, design the necessary components, make the selection, manage the system.
  9. To create a project plan for an information system project, to analyze and document the necessary needs, to dominate the systematic database analysis, design and implementation stages, to give technical and managerial contributions, to take responsibility and to manage effectively.
  10. To know programming and database logic and to use a modern programming language.
  11. To have mastery of administrative / functional applications of enterprise information systems. To have knowledge about types of enterprise software, software selection and purchase decision, to plan and manage software development processes.

 

OCCUPATIONAL PROFILE OF GRADUATES

Graduates will be able to work in modern business life such as fields of software project management, data analysis, system analysis, consulting, decision making systems, business intelligence, software development, database management, virtualization, network management.

 

TRANSITION TO UPPER LEVEL PROGRAMS

Students who graduate from this program can apply to study in post-graduate programs.

 

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of Management Informatics Systems is organized with 132 credits and 240 ECTS.
