Course Description

This course is essentially a continuation of the Statistics course from the previous

Semester. Focusing more on applications, students are required to prepare a presentation using the techniques covered in the course. By the end of the course, students should have a fair understanding of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting statistical data. Fundamentals that will be essential in the econometrics course will be emphasized. Lab exercises using Excel will be introduced following each theoretical lecture.

 

Course Objectives

 

The essence of research design and the application of several quantitative methods are conveyed on the development of a basic proposal into a testable question followed by a thorough analysis, interpretation and a discussion of the final results. Hence the course being not only theoretically but also practically involving. Course objectives include topics such as chi-square, correlation, regression and hypothesis testing.

 

Course Learning Outcomes

 

Students who successfully pass  UIT 224:

  1. Will have internalized fundamental concepts in research methods.
  2. Will be able to select the appropriate methodology depending on the type of data and research question.
  3. Will be able to conduct estimations and identify causation.
  4. Will be able to relate findings of results with scientific research.
  5. Will be able to share findings and recommendations  related to the her/his field with expert and non-expert audiences based on data.
  6. Will operate according to social, scientific, and ethical values when collecting data related to the field, their analysis in computerized environments, interpretation, and the presentation of results.
  7. Will be able to calculate and interpret empirical results in computerized environments.
