Within the course, students are required to practice their knowledge they have gained through research methodology courses by incorporating their area of research or interest. The course also presents a suitable environment for the students for enhancing their skills in public speaking, performing academic discussions as well as in proper communication.

Course Objectives

1.   To review techniques and knowledge obtained in research methodology courses

2.  To provide techniques for a thorough literature review on area of research

3. To provide methods for gathering, collating and classifying knowledge/information on a selected research topic.

4. To provide additional input/knowledge  from area specialists to support the researches being conducted

5. To provide an academic environment and support students for synthesizing the knowledge they gathered on the subject of research

6. To provide medium for performing  academic discussions on a selected topic

6. To enhance students’ skills on preparing a written report of a completed research

7. To provide hints/ methods  for effective presentation of a completed research

Course Learning Outcomes

Students who pass the course will:

I. Refresh their knowledge on research methodologies.

II. Be able to perform a thorough literature review on a selected topic.

III. Acquire insight and knowledge from area specialists pertaining to their subjects.

IV. Be able to prepare an academic report on their research.

V. Be able to prepare a complete visual presentation of the research.

VI. Enhance their academic discussion skills in a group of audience.

VII. Enhance their skills in public speaking.

Instructional Methods and Techniques

Lecture will be conducted in two-hour formal sessions. Research and study topics will be chosen by (or assigned to) students. Students will be requested to make a thorough literature review, prepare a research outline and present it to the lecturer. After obtaining lecturer’s inputs they will carry on with their research. They will be requested to present progression of their study at least once and receive lecturer’s feedback. At the end of the semester, on a date specified by the lecturer, the students will present the outcome of their studies both in the form of written report and a verbal presentation. Verbal presentation will be open to the other students and lecturers of the university.
