Course Description

Business English is a basic course designed for high-intermediate students of English as a second language who wish to improve their written and spoken business communication skills. The course focuses on level-appropriate grammar, introduces vocabulary specific to various business domains, and familiarizes students with the finer points of business etiquette and business correspondence.

 

Course Objectives

 

  • To provide students with the English communication skills needed to be successful in a business organization.
  • To provide the students with the skills necessary for reading and writing of business documents, such as routine letters and emails, specialized letters, memoranda, brochures, articles, workplace and management books, and reports,.
  • To assist them to develop skills in the practical principles of grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary needed in business transactions

M-1 To learn the basic terminology of an office setting

M-2 To learn dos and don'ts of writing a good CV

M-3 To listen and understand  an extract from a lecture on business and ethics

M-4 To understand a conversation among the people in the change management team

M-5 To learn how to write a complaint e-mail

M-6 To understand language and strategies for successful negotiations culminating in a written announcement of an event.

M-7 To listen and understand a consultant talking about the basic stages of the change process

M-8   To understand an oral conversation on organizational change and trade and to learn to take notes while listening

M-9   To learn terms and phrases used in e-mail and in speaking to arrange, participate in and conclude meetings.

M-10 To understand and use vocabulary related with management in conversations

M-11 To understand the vocabulary related with the impact of fairness and diversity in the workplace and relate them to working conditions

M-12 To learn and use of vocabulary related with public relations at work

M-13 To learn terminology to talk and write about brands
