Course Description

Regional Economics, Location Theory, Spatial Analysis, Urban Growth, Spatial Inequalities, International Trade, NEG, Regional Integration, Regional Growth and Development, Urbanization, Urban Economics and Economic Policy, Urban Economics and Development

Course Objectives

This course aims to cover the fundamental issues in regional economics. Location decisions of individuals and economic actors are going to be discussed by referring the historical origins of location theory as well as recent advances in new economic geography. Moreover, discussions on the use of applied methods in regional science is going to be explained in order to encourage students to apply descriptive and analytical models. Additionally, contemporary issues in regional, spatial and urban economics are going to be highlighted within the course.

 

Course Learning Outcomes

 

Be able:

  1. To discuss location decisions and to link historical origins of inequalities with recent advances in urban economics, international trade and new economic geography.
  2. To evaluate the spatial interactions and its importance for designing regional policies.
  3. To use descriptive and analytical tools of regional and spatial economics
  4. To discuss root of regional disparities and its link with overall economic development and prosperity
  5. To discuss the economic policy from the side of inclusiveness of economic development and growth
