Course Description

This is an intermediate macroeconomics course focusing both on core macroeconomic models and their extensions. In the first part of the course, both short run and medium run models to explain the mechanisms of macroeconomics will be discussed.  In the second part, extensions of the macroeconomic analysis will be discussed. Main themes of this part are the detailed analysis of the expectations and the open economy.

 

Course Objectives

 

1. To equip students with both core macroeconomic models and their extensions

2. To enable students to understand the mechanisms behind macroeconomic models as well as the role of expectations in macroeconomics

3. To make students acquainted with the open economy, and more specifically with openness in goods and financial markets

 

Course Learning Outcomes

 

Students that complete the Macroeconomics-EF 221 course successfully are able to

  1. Identify the core macroeconomics models
  2. Explain and analyze the IS-LM Model and the AS-AD Model
  3. Describe and discuss the role of expectations in macroeconomics, with a special emphasis on financial markets
  4. Explore the link between expectations and macroeconomic fundamentals such as consumption, investment, output etc.
  5. Explain the basics of an open economy and openness in goods and financial markets

Homework & Projects

There will be assignments and short quiz-exams during the term, which will constitute 10% of the final exam assessment. Moreover, there will be problem hours to be given by the teaching assistant of the course before the mid-term and final exams.
