Course Description

The aim of this course is to introduce the students to the principles for analyzing the public sector, and provide understanding on the economic role of the state. While the textbook used is based on the American economy, students are also given tasks to present the corresponding policies and working in the Turkish system. Students are expected to prepare a mid-term presentation elaborating on how the topics learned in class correspond to the public policies in Turkey, through extensive use of graphs and tables.

 

Course Objectives

 

The course subject mainly covers public revenues and expenditures, budgets, fiscal policy and public debt. In this framework analytical approach required to examine the development of public finance and its many aspects at the international level will be presented.

 

Course Learning Outcomes

 

Students who successfully pass  EF 323:

  1. Will have internalized fundamental concepts in public finance.
  2. Will be able to select the appropriate policy approach depending on the policy challenge.
  3. Will be able to conduct analyses and identify areas that require policy intervention.
  4. Will be able to relate findings with scientific research.
  5. Will be able to share findings and recommendations  related to the her/his field with expert and non-expert audiences based on data.
  6. Will act according to social, scientific, cultural, and ethical values while in the stages of data collection related to the field, their analysis, interpretation, and the announcement of results related to public policy.
  7. Will be able to interpret empirical results obtained in the area of public policy.
