Course Description

This course will provide an overview of the international logistics function within a firm in the context of global supply chain. Topics will include international logistics and supply chain, international trade, challenges, developments and future trends in global logistics, international contracts, international transportation, regional facts of global logistics operations.

 

Course Objectives

 

Large-scale enterprises as well as medium-sized firms have increasingly globalized their value creation activities over the past few years. They operate in global markets – with regard to procurement and production as well as in relation to their customers, who are supplied by global distribution systems. Therefore companies need to optimally design and coordinate their globally distributed value creation activities (particularly production and logistics).

The primary objective is to give students an understanding well about WHAT are logistics and supply chain, WHY it becomes so vital nowadays to manage the business logistics / supply chain in an organization, HOW to manage and control well logistics activities to maximize profit and respond well customer’s demand at global context.

 

Course Learning Outcomes

 

  1. To understand the concept and the structure of a supply chain and its logistics system
  2. To understand the philosophy and the importance of logistics in global supply chains
  3. To understand the effects of  logistics in global supply chains / international trade.
  4. To learn and use the supply chain management principles in practice at global context.
  5. To give a general understanding of strategic challenges of the material sourcing, reverse logistics and material production as a means of supply chain strategies
  6. To plan and control a certain supply chain by theories and practices that learned in the course
