Course Description

This unit covers the requirements of the 1978 STCW Convention and the code Part A as amended in 1995 according to the regulations VI/2 and Section A-VI/2 respectively.

A trainee successfully completing this unit will be able to take charge of preparation, embarkation and launching of survival craft. They will also be able to manage a boat under oars, sails or motor  and take charge of an inflatable fife raft. Trainees will know the correct use of survival equipment and the actions to take preserve the lives of those in their charge.

Students who successfully pass the course will acquire knowledge on;

3. Manage survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship
4. Use locating devices, including communication and signalling apparatus and pyrotechnics
5. Apply first aid to survivors
