Course Description

This course covers all aspects of practical advance celestial navigation, to safely and efficiently navigate an open ocean passage for Oceangoing Officers/Maritime Transportation and Management Engineering.

 

Course Objectives

 

To give expertise at management level to the oceangoing officers and masters sailing in the vast oceans without electronic navigation aids.

 

Course Learning Outcomes

 

  1. Will have demonstrated an advanced understanding and knowledge of the principles of celestial navigation
  2. Will have demonstrated an ability to utilize observations of celestial bodies to fix the vessel’s position.
  3. Will have demonstrated an ability to utilize observations of celestial bodies to determine error of the compasses
  4. Will have demonstrated ability to obtain detailed information from appropriate navigational publications

All lectures will follow a problem solving session. For sextant usage practice, outdoor sessions will be conducted depending on weather.
