Course Description
|
This course consists of two parts:
- Medical Care Onboard Ship
- Advanced Fire Fighting
This unit covers the requirements of the 1978 STCW Convention and the code Part A as amended in 2010 according to the regulations VI/3, VI/4 and Section A-VI/3, A-VI/4 respectively.
These courses are the mandatory basic safety trainings for seafarers. A trainee successfully completing the units will learn;
- Human anatomy and physiology, patient care methods, medical conditions and emergencies, diseases, coordination methods for medical assistance to ships - external assistance, practices (medical intervention)
- Introduction, safety and principles, theory of fire, fire control aboard ship, ship fire-fighting organization, training seafarers in fire-fighting, procedures fire-fighting, inspection and servicing of fire appliances and equipment, fire-fighting process hazards, first aid, fire investigation and reporting, case studies

Course Objectives
|
A trainee successfully completing the “Medical Care Onboard Ship” will be able to take necessary precautions to save his/her and other personnel’s life, how to perform first aid, how to prevent accidents and illnesses, and process of referral of the patients and injured personnel.
A trainee successfully completing the “Advanced Fire Fighting” will be able to to take command, organize the personnel effectively and control the fire-fighting operations, using those techniques in which has been trained in the event of a fire on board ship. He will also have acquired knowledge of fire prevention and an ability to inspect and maintain the fire-extinguishing systems and equipment.
