Course Description
|
Various standards and regulations for ship’s installations and ship building are set out to secure safety of ships and to protect marine environment. A ship/installation is built/manufactured conforming to these standards and regulations and a ship owner has obligation to have a ship’s survey to judge if the ship maintains compliance with these standards and regulations after putting it into service. There are mainly two types of ship’s survey which are the manufacturing survey conducted when the ship/installations was/were built/manufactured and the periodical ship survey with many certificates. These surveys are conducted in accordance with the standards and regulations set out by governments or ship’s classification societies. Thus, many standards and regulations are applied to ships in service. All nations provide that ships flying their flag have to meet a certain standard. In many cases, a ship having a certificate issued by ship’s classification societies registered in IACS (International Association of Classification Societies) or EMSA (European Maritime Safety Agency) is deemed to meet the standard including relevant regulations. This course covers significance of survey, ship’s classification society, examples of standards and regulations applied to ship’s installations, sort of ship’s survey and certificate, practice, procedures, preparation and precautions for survey. Among others, ship personnel need to understand in depth what preparations are necessary when they have survey.
