Course Description
|
Basic concepts of public and private law, international agreements related to marine transportation, ship, flag, seaworthiness, ship documents and records should be kept, shipowner and affreightment consortium, captain’s authorities and responsibilities, maritime commercial agreements, freight contract, layday, demurrage, Bill of Lading, carrier’s liability, marine accidents, general average, collision, salvage, limitation of liability, claims arising from oil pollution, legal executions and maritime labour law.

Course Objectives
|
To teach the deck and engineering officers the basic concepts, definitions and principles of public and private law and maritime law.
|
Course Learning Outcomes
|
Students who successfully pass the course will acquire knowledge and skills as listed below:
I. To understand the concepts of law, justice, equity, written and unwritten rules, positive law, ideal law,
II. To know features and hierarchy of legal norms.
III. Characteristics of public and private law.
IV. Substantive law and the law of civil, criminal and administrative procedures.
V. International agreements and regulations on shipping.
