TURKISH MARITIME EDUCATION FOUNDATION (TUDEV):

Turkish Maritime Education Foundation was established by the support and sponsorship of 52 founder members of Turkish Chamber of Shipping on January 7, 1993.
 

THE PURPOSE OF TURKISH MARITIME EDUCATION FOUNDATION

To reach the level of developed countries in maritime transportation, constitute maritime policy that will increase the economic power of our country in this area, do the necessary studies to determine the targets, educate and train staff members to serve Turkish Maritime and assist them to have occupations are the main targets of Turkish Maritime Education Foundation.

To fulfill the need of seafarers in Turkey, Turkish Maritime Education Foundation:

* supports existing Maritime Education Foundations.
* targets to establish its own Maritime Training Center to raise seafarers.
* (As it is stated in the articles of foundation to establish its own Maritime University) MEF has provided financial support to ;
– I.T.U Maritime Faculty
– K.T.U Maritime Faculty
– 9 Eylul Maritime Collegiate School and other maritime foundations. Financial support of MEF is still continuing.

Subsequently, TUDEV Maritime Education Center started providing education in the former building of Sisli city hall in March 1995. In 1997 with the contributions of D.T.O the construction of the new building started in Tuzla and TUDEV moved to its new place in 1999.

TUDEV Maritime Education Center is under the control of Ministry of Education and Maritime Undersecretary. Up until now, TUDEV has graduated 2100 officers. On December 4, 2003 at an extraordinary meeting of the general assembly Maritime Chamber of Commerce and Turkish Maritime Education Board of Trustees and Directors intended TUDEV to sustain as a Turkish Maritime University.

Right after this decision was taken, an application for the foundation of the university was presented to Higher Education Council (YOK) on February 9, 2004. Thus, on February 8, 2008 the foundation of PIRI REIS UNIVERSITY was accepted and published in an official jounal. Therefore, Piri Reis University has become invaluable for the Maritime World.
