Course Learning Outcomes
|
Upon successful completion of the Course,students should be able to;
I.Understand the properties and state of a substance,processes and cycles,
II.Refresh basic knowledge regarding SI units of mass,length,time,force,energy,specific volume,density,pressure and temperature
III. Learn vapor-liquid-solid phase in a pure substance,independent properties of a pure substance ,solve problems utilizing Table of Thermodynamic Properties
IV.Refresh basic knowledge regarding work,and heat,and solve related problems from a thermodynamic respective.
V.Understand and solve related problems regarding the First Law of Thermodynamics for a control mass undergoing a cycle,and for a change in state of a control mass, Internal Energy,and Enthalpy (Two new Thermodynamic Properties),constant volume and constant pressure specific heats,the Internal energy,enthalpy,and specific heats of ideal gasses,the first law as arate equation, and conservation of mass
VI. Understand and solve related problems regarding Heat Engines,and Refrigerators,The Second Law of Thermodynamics for a closed system,Reversible/irreversible processes, friction and losses, Carnot Cycle,Two propositions regarding the efficiency of the Carnot Cycle,Thermodynamic and Ideal GasTemperature Scales, Ideal vs. Real Machines
VII. Understand and solve related problems regarding Entropy-A Property of a system, The Inequality of Clasius, the entropy of a pure substance,entropy change in a reversible process and of a control mass during an irreversible process,entropy generation,principle of the increase of entropy, entropy change of a solid or a liquid, entropy change of an ideal gas, reversible polytropic process for an ideal gas, entropy as a rate equation
