Course Description

This is an introductory course that students can explore what engineering is all about. The role of engineering in modern world through the story of its history and relationships with art, craft, science and technology, the knowledge of engineering analysis and design methods will be addressed. Project Management methodology and details of project based approach will also be visited. All skills and methods will be applied through out the projects executed by student groups.

Course Objectives

The course introduces engineering students to the basic concepts and principles of design and their application to engineering disciplines. The course provides a platform through which all engineers can understand major concepts, despite their specialty backgrounds. With a focus on the engineering design process and project management rather than the technical details of a specific engineering field.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Define engineering.
  2. Gaining knowledge on engineering analysis and design methods.
  3. Development of Project management skills.
  4. Appreciation and good understanding of ethics in engineering.

Instructional Methods and Techniques

Lectures will be given through slide shows; sample problems will be solved in class and real-life applications will be discussed in class with question and answer sessions.
