Course Description

 

The CEF (Common European Framework) is a system of evaluation and reference designated for languages. The course has been designed in accordance with this system. The aim of the course is to enable the learner to utilize the French language as a basic user. Through teaching integrated skills of reading,comprehension, speaking, listening and writing, the learner is expected to read brief and simple texts, understand the main idea in messages and announcements, and use essential phrases and sentences to exchange information on fundamental issues. In this course, the basic skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing of the students are improved through the use of critical thinking strategies.

 

 

Course Objectives

 

 

  • General Linguistic Range; Students have a very basic range of simple expressions about personal details and needs of a concrete type
  • Vocabulary Range and Control; students have a basic repertoire of isolated words and phrases related to particular concrete situations
  • Sociolinguistic Appropriateness: Students can establih basic social contact by using the simplest everyday polite forms of ;greetings and farewells,introductions,saying ‘please,thank you, sorry etc.’

 

 

 

 

 

Course Learning Outcomes

 

 the student will be able to:

 

Outcome 1:          understand instructions adressed carefully and slowly to him

Outcome 2:          follow speech which is slow and carefully articulated

Outcome 3:           understand basic phonological features of the spoken language 

Outcome 4:          write simple phrases and sentences about themselves and imaginary people,where they live and what they do

Outcome 5:          understand short,simple texts,a single phrase or sentence at a time, picking up familiar names, words and basic phrases

Outcome 6:          get an idea of the content of simple informational material, simple descriptions and authentic texts with visual support and appropriate pre-reading strategies.

 

 

Outcome 7:         interact in a simple way but communication is totally dependent on repetition at a slower rate of speech, rephrasing and repair

Outcome 8:    ask and answer simple questions,initiate and respond to simple statements in areas of immediate need or on very familiar topics
