Course Description

Introduction to database, Fundamentals of database systems, Data models, Entity-Relationship Model, Hierarchical model, Network database model, Relational model, Object Oriented model, SQL (Structured Query Language), Spatial Databases, Web based Databases

 

Course Objectives

 

1. To teach concepts and methods of databases in engineering.

2. To be able to database design and implementation.

3. To teach how databases can be used for problem solving and analyzing.

4. Develop applications involving database systems in particular using SQL and Access.

 

Course Learning Outcomes

 

Students who successfully pass this course will be able to;

I. Explain the fundamentals of databases.

II. Select, design and employ appropriate data model  for a given subject.

III. Use database system approach to solve engineering problems.

IV. Interpret topological relations and spatial queries as part of spatial databases.

V. Describe web-based database concepts and their application areas.

VI.Formulize and conclude different queries by using the related database management system.
